Privacy Policy

Plain-English version: we are a volunteer coalition, not a business. We collect your contact information only to keep you informed about the fight to protect Cedar Creek Lake. We never sell or rent it, and you can leave the list any time.

Effective June 6, 2026

Who we are

Save Cedar Creek Lake is a volunteer coalition of lake residents, business owners, and Henderson County neighbors. We have no paid staff and we are not selling anything. When this policy says “we,” “us,” or “the coalition,” that is who we mean. You can reach us any time at savecedarcreeklake@gmail.com.

What we collect

We only collect what you choose to give us through our sign-up forms. Depending on which fields you fill in, that may include:

  • Your name
  • Email address
  • Mobile phone number (only if you provide it, for text alerts)
  • ZIP code (so we can tell you which officials and districts represent you)
  • An optional message you may write in the “a line for your officials” field
  • Which updates you asked for (email, text, yard sign, etc.)

We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 16, and we do not ask for sensitive information such as financial account numbers, government ID numbers, or health information.

How we use it

We use your information for one purpose: organizing to protect Cedar Creek Lake. Specifically, to:

  • Send you campaign updates, meeting notices, and reminders before public votes and comment deadlines;
  • Let you know how to contact the officials who represent your address;
  • Coordinate volunteer activities like yard-sign requests; and
  • Understand, in aggregate, where our supporters are concentrated.

We will not use your information for unrelated purposes without asking you first.

We do not sell or share your information

We never sell, rent, or trade your personal information. We do not share it with advertisers, political action committees, or candidates. The only parties who ever touch your data are the trusted service providers we use to actually send the emails and texts (described below), and only so they can deliver our messages to you.

The services we use

To run our list we rely on a small number of established providers, who process your information on our behalf under their own privacy and security commitments:

  • Mailchimp (Intuit Inc.) — stores our contact list and sends our email and text messages. See Mailchimp’s privacy notice at intuit.com/privacy/statement.
  • Web push provider — if you opt in to browser push notifications, your browser’s anonymous push token is used only to deliver alerts you requested. You can revoke this any time in your browser settings.
  • Google Analytics (Google LLC) — helps us understand, in aggregate, how many people visit the site and which pages they read, so we can organize better. It uses cookies and collects standard usage data such as approximate location, device type, and pages viewed. We use it only for anonymous traffic measurement, not to identify you personally. See Google’s privacy policy.
  • Our website host — serves these pages and may keep standard, short-lived server logs (such as IP address and page requested) for security and reliability.

Text messaging (SMS) terms

If you give us your mobile number and opt in to text alerts, here is exactly what you are agreeing to:

  • What you’ll get: occasional alerts about votes, public-comment deadlines, meetings, and campaign news — generally no more than a few messages per week. Frequency may increase around key votes.
  • Cost: we never charge for texts, but message and data rates may apply from your mobile carrier.
  • Opt out any time: reply STOP to any message to stop all texts. Reply HELP for help, or email savecedarcreeklake@gmail.com.
  • Consent isn’t a condition: you never have to receive texts to take part in the campaign — email-only is always fine.
  • Your mobile number is used only for these alerts and is never sold or shared for marketing.

How to update or remove your information

  • Email: click “unsubscribe” at the bottom of any email, or email us.
  • Texts: reply STOP.
  • Browser push: turn off notifications for this site in your browser.
  • Everything: email savecedarcreeklake@gmail.com and ask us to correct or permanently delete your information, and we will.

How long we keep it

We keep your information for as long as the campaign is active and you remain on the list. If you unsubscribe or ask us to delete your data, we remove it promptly, except where we are briefly required to keep a suppression record so we don’t accidentally contact you again.

Security

We use reputable providers that maintain industry-standard safeguards, and we limit access to your information to the volunteers who need it to run the list. No method of transmission over the internet is ever 100% secure, but we take reasonable steps to protect what you share with us.

Your choices and rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, or delete the personal information we hold about you, and to opt out of communications. Texas residents and others can exercise these choices simply by emailing savecedarcreeklake@gmail.com. We will not discriminate against you for exercising any of these rights.

Changes to this policy

If we make a meaningful change, we will update the date at the top of this page and, when appropriate, let you know by email. Continuing to use the site or stay on the list after a change means you accept the updated policy.
